It was so interesting to see what our talented sisters brought to our activity, highlighting the ‘secret ingredient’ they had been provided –something they might have in their food storage. There were delicacies from black bean salsa to strawberry/peanut butter waffles. Apologies to those not mentioned, but it was a tasty sampling all around! Thank you to those who participated and shared their talents, as well as their kitchens and family stores to make our “Iron Chef Challenge” so much fun. Thank you to Sister Sarah Holman, Sister Ashlee Mabon and Sister Anikka Edwards, once again, for planning and pulling it off! Another big ‘THANK YOU’ to SisterMandi Taylor for her expertise in food storage and her demonstration with wheat. We also want to thank Caitlin Rosenloff and Jenna for coming to help with the children.
You may be wondering what happened to our Humanitarian Project. It is on indefinite hold at present. Hold the thought….
Please enjoy your numerous family summer activities. We will not try to compete and will look towards our Stake Relief Society General Women’s Conference in September.
BYU Campus Education Week is asking for volunteers 18 and older and able to serve one 3 ¾ hr. shift each day, Tuesday through Friday, Aug. 15-19. See Sister Magnuson for info or sign up online at http://educationweek.byu.edu, or call 801-422-6214.
There is a Senior Advantage health group through Pioneer Valley Hospital that meets for exercise, water aerobics, and other activities. If you are interested, talk to Sister Magnuson or call PVH.
The Spanish-speaking sister missionaries assigned to our stake have another stake to cover as well as ours. We have been asked to find sisters who would, on occasion, be able to do a split, so they can attend the block meetings, which are at the same time each week. It would require driving one sister to Jordan North Stake and returning to attend the Spanish Branch meetings from 1:-4:, or make sure there is someone with them there, then pick up the other sister afterwards. They have one car, but can’t drive by themselves. So, can you spare a Sunday afternoon once in a while to help out? Please let Sister Magnuson or Brother Glen Davis know if you can be available.
The Jordan River Temple is now open. Check it out.
Just a nudge: Sister Joan Johnson is residing at Alta Ridge on 9800 South 1900 West, Room 207. She would love seeing her friends.

RELIEF SOCIETY NEWS FROM OUR WVC 4TH WARD NEWSLETTER
We enjoyed the creativity of many who came to create cake/cookie/candy/pie stands at our May activity. We also enjoyed decorating the cupcakes to carry home. Thank you to Sister Sarah Holman, Sister Ashlee Mabon and Sister Anikka Edwards for planning it for us and to Sister Julie Romero for the cupcake decorations she made and brought.
Hopefully, you are getting information via email and announcements. Please add your name to Sister Holman’s email list if you haven’t already so you can get updates on our activities.
Thanks, too, to Sister Kay Williams and Sister Kris Humphries who are instrumental in getting messages out for us via the computer! What a great tool!
Tuesday night, June 14, will be our “Food Storage Iron Chef” challenge. We are looking forward to a great activity. You may have your food storage, but do you know how to use the items you have?

Tuesday night, June 14, will be our “Food Storage Iron Chef” challenge. We are looking forward to a great activity. You may have your food storage, but do you know how to use the items you have?
Participants of our Food Storage Iron Chef challenge will be given a “secret ingredient” commonly found in your food storage. Participants will then be assigned to create an appetizer, main dish, or dessert using this secret ingredient.
We will meet at the ward to see what each participant has created. You will be allowed to taste each item and possibly take home a new recipe. There will also be some other food storage related activities. It should be a fun, educational, and tasty evening!
More information will be coming at a later date regarding our humanitarian hygiene kit project.
Because of busy family summer activities, etc., our June 14 activity will be the last one before the Stake Relief Society General Conference in September. Hope to see you there!
Apologies to Kaitlyn Buchanan and Caitlin Rosenlof for continually mixing up and misspelling their names! Sorry. We so appreciate it when the Young Women can help us with our children.
Sister Joan Johnson will be residing at Alta Ridge on 9800 South 1900 West, Room 207. She would love seeing her friends.
Esteemed former ward member Emily Harker gave birth recently to twin girls, Aurora and Ella. We congratulate her and wish her family well on numbers eight and nine.
Once again, we want to thank those who helped in any way to provide the luncheon for the Stout [Potter] family this past month. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

JUNE BOOK CLUB
Well.... I didn't end up in the hospital from a mutinous attack of flying objects. The wait is over for those of you whose curiosity has not yet been satisfied as to what and who the Surprise Presentation of April was all about. Actually, I think you may have enjoyed my Surprise Presentation!
Yes, I say "my" because Yours Truly is exactly who you were met by for the April gathering of our Literary Society. I just didn't tell you that I donned by protective shield under my clothes in case things got too far out of hand in the displeasure department. If nothing else, I know the food was at least worth it! HEE HEE
You can admit it . . . how great it was that I have Gold Crown connections and pulled off a presentation that any "teacher" worth their salt would be proud of, huh???? We enjoyed each other's company, had some really good laughs, shed a few heartfelt tears . . . what more could you ask for in an evening among friends?? Well, let's not go there.....
The evening, in my opinion, was a treat. . . it was movie night! The screen lit up with the triumphant (and true) story of Brad Cohen. Accused of being a troublemaker in school, only to learn, finally, that he had Tourette's Syndrome. Did that stop him??? Noooooooo, he fought the looks, the taunts, and all the incredible odds against him to become... a teacher. Well worth a look for any of you interested. . . Hallmark Hall of Fame presents "Front of the Class."
Onward and upward . . . actually, we are going to go downward for our next adventure. We are quite the globetrotters, I must say. Our next pilgrimage will lead us to a few years back, well okay, QUITE a few years back, to a time that was life changing for those involved in this influential novel. I have some friends serving a mission in this very diverse and much loved country. A country of humble, gentle, committed souls. . .much different now than it was at the time of our next read. Welcome to South Africa!
The book for June will be presented by Camille Jensen. A compelling novel about a black man's country under white man's law, "Cry, The Beloved Country" by Alan Paton, rises out of South Africa. A work of searing beauty, it tells a deeply moving story of a Zulu pastor, Stephen Kumalo and his son, Absalom.
A favorite among many readers, it makes them feel an uncanny connection to three things: the land, an old black rural priest searching in a corrupt city for his son, and an old white rural man confronting the loss of his son. "It is a story of the beauty and terror of human life, and it cannot be written again because it cannot be felt again."
Join us as we once again broaden our horizons, add gray matter between our ears and renew our "beloved" friendships.
