THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

LDSnuggets.com
"How is Christmas regarded today? The legend of Santa Claus, the Christmas tree, the decorations of tinsel and mistletoe, and the giving of gifts all express to us the spirit of the day we celebrate; but the true spirit of Christmas lies much deeper than these. It is found in the life of the Savior, in the principles He taught, in His atoning sacrifice--which become our great heritage."
--Howard W. Hunter, "The Real Christmas", Ensign, Dec. 2005, 24

"Christmas means giving. The Father gave his Son, and the Son gave his life. Without giving there is no true Christmas, and without sacrifice there is no true worship."
--Gordon B. Hinckley, "What Shall I Do Then with Jesus Which Is Called Christ?", Ensign, Dec. 1983, 3

WHITEHALL R.S. NEWS FOR DECEMBER 2011

We want to acknowledge the great contributions of Sister Jessica Bateman as she has been recently released from our ward Relief Society Presidency. We wish her all the best as she juggles her new routine of caring for brand new baby, Allyson. We would also like to thank Sister Kay Williams for all her time and effort in caring for the sisters of our ward through her calling as Visiting Teaching Coordinator. We sincerely wish her the best in her new calling as a Church Service Missionary at the Employment Center.    We welcome Sister Dianne Niebuhr as first counselor and Sister Bea Winslow as secretary.  Sister Sandy Hill is our new Visiting Teaching  coordinator.  Please keep visiting your current route and call your current supervisors until we get reorganized. We are looking forward to working together as sisters in the coming weeks and months ahead.   We want to invite and encourage some of you who haven’t been with us for a while to join with us once again and enjoy the sisterhood of the women in our ward. We would like to extend a warm welcome to those who have recently been released from the Young Women and Primary to join with us in our weekly Sunday Relief Society meetings as well.  Our fun November activity helped us get to know a little bit more about our sisters and some of their favorite things. We so appreciate the hardworking committee members that worked with Sister Sarah Holman, namely Sister Laura Rollins, Sister Stacy Bowen and Sister Anikka Edwards. We enjoyed delicious soups and desserts provided by our generous sisters as well. Thank you all for making our evening so fun!
The Jordan River Temple will be closed for cleaning for two weeks, beginning Tuesday, December 6 through Tuesday, December 20. It will also be closed on Saturday, December 24. On Saturday, December 31 the last endowment session will begin at 10:00 am. Special Endowment sessions in Spanish are held every Wednesday at 8:00 pm and every Saturday at 11:20 am. Questions? 801-254-3003.
We have been given the opportunity to help the Salt Lake City Mission  provide a more abundant Christmas for our own missionaries. We have lists of health/beauty, treat, stationery, stamps, winter wear, gift cards, etc., that they have requested. We will be collecting donated unwrapped items until SUNDAY, December 11.  They will then be delivered and sorted into gift bags, etc. They have also requested usable bikes and missionary-standard clothing in good condition for their ‘missionary mall.’
Looking Ahead: Our December activity will be held on Sunday, December 18 at 7:00 pm. Sister Kay Neeley has graciously consented to share an evening of memorable stories with the adults in our ward.  So, circle the date and plan to come on Sunday evening for an enjoyable Christmas  gathering. Those of you who may need sitters may contact the Young Women who will be available for service hours.
