Jason Baren

I'm so sorry, but I have to add another sad message to my other too-often-sent messages. Kim Stott Baren, daughter of Kevin and Barbara Stott, found yesterday that her husband, Jason, had died during the night. It was a complete shock and surprise for he had not been ill. We send our deepest love and condolensces to the Stott Family and to Kim. Kay

Arlo Ward

Dear brothers and sisters,
It is with great sadness that I must tell you that Arlo passed away very quietly about 5:05 this evening. When I have any more news regarding his funeral, I will pass it on to you.

Mary Jane Griffith's Slow Cooker Breakfast Casserole

2 lbs. frozen shredded hashbrowns
Large pkg. of shredded cheese
1 red pepper, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
ham, bacon or sausage (or all three!), chopped in pieces
12 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1/2 cup milk

I have been making this for so many years that I don't really have a recipe written down. You can pretty much put whatever you want in this as far as vegetables and meat and such. Depending on the size of your crockpot you will use more or less of the ingredients. It always turns out so yummy!

Spray crockpot with non-stick cooking spray. Chop all meat and vegetables and combine in a bowl. In the crockpot layer some of the hashbrowns, some of the vegetable/meat mixture and some of the cheese. Repeat those layers until your crockpot is full ending with a layer of cheese on the top. In a bowl whisk together the eggs, milk, salt & pepper. Pour this mixture over the top of your layers - it will soak down into the crockpot. Cook on low for about 8 hours or on high for 4. I usually make this at night and let it cook on low until morning.

Shaylee's Poem

Shaylee Tanner is the 10 year old daughter of Miriam Barker. She wrote this by herself and asked if it could be to published on our blog site:

"He once stood beside us and held our hand
and it will be happy again.

Someday, we will feel his love inside out.
Someday we will walk with Him.

We will remember Him.
Someday we will feel love streaming through his veins.

Once again he will show us his palms of his hands and his scars,
those dear holes in his hands, wrist, feet and ankles.

Someday we will live in his kingdom.
Someday, we'll hold his hand and pray someday, someday, someday.

Yes, it will happen someday.
Live your life like you have thirty years to live the commandments
as if you were to die tomorrow.

Just remember...yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery,
today is a gift...That's why it is called a present."

February Enrichment Activity

Please mark your calendars for our ward Enrichment Activity on Saturday, February 21st. Meet at the church at 9:30am to carpool. We will be having a Kitchen Kneads demonstration on the use of our food storage items.

Provident Living: Resource Management

Ask yourself honestly: Am I controlling my money or is it controlling me? The Lord has commanded us to be wise stewards of our resources.

Can you honestly say that all of the following statements apply to you and your family?

1. I am responsible for how my money is used. It is having a positive impact on my family.
2. I am cautious about incurring debt. I use it for essential items like a house and not for unneeded items.
3. I report honestly on my use of money to the Lord and to my spouse.

Controlling family spending is essential to living within our means as the Lord has commanded. The following principles will help us be provident in our financial resource management:
a. Pay tithes and offerings first. Donate 10% of your gross increase and a generous fast offering. The Lord will help you use the other 90% of your money effectively.
b. Spend less than you earn. Save for the future to establish a rainy day fund and funds for education and missions.
c. Budget your money each month. Avoid unnecessary debt. Pay off the obligations you currently have until you are out of debt.
d. Shop wisely: utilize sales, coupons, and discount stores.
e. Use resources frugally and avoid wasting them. Conserve natural gas, electricity, and water.
f. Limit eating out. Cook nutritious meals at home.
g. Teach children to use money wisely. Learn to make minor repairs and use what you have.
h. Grow a garden and learn to preserve and utilize the produce.

21 Day Promise

In church today the Relief Society and Priesthood had a combined class about being prepared to share gospel topics with those who are not members of the church and helping those who are not active in the church. After the lesson, the full-time missionaries gave us the following challenge:

21 Day Promise

Elder Robert E. Wells of the First Quorum of the Seventy and Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles issued a special promise to all members of the Church within the boundaries of the Utah Salt Lake City Mission. Their instructions were to create a list of your nonmember and less-active friends and include the list in your morning and evening family prayers. As you do this for 21 consecutive days, without missing a single prayer, the Lord promises that at least one of the names on your list, or perhaps someone else, will accept an invitation to hear the missionary lessons by the end of the 21 day period. We challenge you to give Heavenly Father’s promise a try, for He has declared, “I, the Lord, am bound when you do what I say; but when you do not what I say, ye have no promise” (D&C 82:10).

  • Take a few days to become spiritually ready.
  • Begin by fasting for the people on your list.
  • Pray morning and night to ask your Heavenly Father to help you find nonmember and less-active families and individuals who are prepared to listen to the missionary discussions in your home.
  • Read from the Book of Mormon every day.
  • Be especially obedient to Heavenly Father’s commandments during the 21 days.
  • Think about and do things that will help you be more in tune with the Holy Spirit.
  • Show love to everyone you meet, especially each other.
Think about Nephi, who had no idea how to get the brass plates from Laban. The Lord directed him and showed him how. The Lord will open the way for you to find someone prepared to listen to the message of the Restoration.

If you need any help, make sure to contact the full-time missionaries: Elders Kiester, Nelson, and Adams, at 793-9443.
