Whitehall Ward R.S. Activity Night- April 11th

Sisters,
  • We want to remind you of our April Relief Society Activity this Thursday,
  • April 11 at 7pm in the Gym.
  • We will have an evening of Gardening.
  • There will be a presentation by a Master Gardener
  • We will hear some great uses for the produce you grow and we will be painting cute terracotta pots.
We hope you will be able to join us for this fun evening.

The first pot will be provided by the Relief Society and any additional pots you would like to do are $2 each.
Everyone is invited so grab your friend or neighbor and come join us Thursday night!

PEARL AILEEN FERGUSON-WARD MEMBER PASSES AWAY

Dear neighbors, friends and Whitehall Ward members. We are saddened to let you know of the recent passing of Sister Pearl Aileen Ferguson.

Born 2/10/1928 passed in peaceful sleep 3/3/2013 of natural causes. 1 of 6 children born to George Merle “Slim” and Pearl Marie Black of Springville UT.
Aileen, loving wife to Meredith “Pete” Ferguson, devoted mother of 9, Dan, Tom, Audrey, Roquell, Joe, Sue, Casey, Joyce and Phyllis; 29 grandchildren, 64 great and 2 great-great. Aileen’s passion in life was her family and knowing details about each and every one of them. Her occupational passion was preparing good food for those in care centers. Accomplishments included directing youth theater, 2 term president Utah Scottish Association, catering Scottish food for festivals and recipient of the Great Scot Award. At age 78 served an LDS mission in Australia. Dulcius Ex Asperis: “Sweeter through Difficulty” a family motto that held true all her amazing life. We love you, Mom.
Memorial service will be held at 11am March 9th at White Hall Chapel, 3150 W White Hall Dr. (3985 S) West Valley City. If desired please send flowers to the chapel by 11am Saturday. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.

Wayne Nelson-Ward Member Passes Away

Norman “Wayne” Nelson (82) passed away Feb. 16, 2013.
Born July 11, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Norman P. and Leona Wilkinson Nelson. Joined the National Guard when in High School. When the Korean war broke out , his guard unit was activated and stationed in Oklahoma. Married Hendrika Van Den Berghe in the Salt Lake LDS Temple while serving in the military. After the military, Wayne worked at International Harvester, Kenworth, and retired from Salt Lake City Shops as Fleet Service Manager. Active member of the LDS Church. He served in many positions including many years as Scout Master. He was always an avid sportsman and lover of the outdoors; hunting, fishing and camping with his family.
Survived by his wife, Hendrika; 8 children: Floyd Nelson, Gordon (Miriam) Nelson, Sheri (Dave, deceased) Clemens, Norman Nelson, Julie (Brant) Hardy, Tom (Becky) Nelson, Nan (Shane) Provstgaard, Mike (April) Nelson; brother, Don Nelson; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Leona Carlson.
Funeral services: Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, 11:00 am, at the White Hall Chapel, 3150 W. White Hall Dr. (3985 So.) . Viewings: Friday, 5:30 -8:00 pm McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 So. Redwood Rd. and Saturday at the church, 10 -10:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.

WHITEHALL RELIEF SOCIETY NEWS

Dear Sisters,
Below are a couple reminders for upcoming events.
Saturday, February 23 at 9:00am is the baptism of Stephanie Williams. All members of the ward have been invited to attend her baptism. Originally it was scheduled for 11:00am but due to the funeral of Wayne Nelson, that will be held the same day, her baptism was moved to 9:00am.
Saturday, February 23 at 11:00am will be the funeral services for Wayne Nelson. There will be a viewing at 10am in the Relief Society room of the Whitehall Building prior to the funeral service.
More information will be sent out once it is available.
Friday, March 1 is the deadline for Seminary registration. Please keep this date in mind if you have seminary aged children. We would also like your help in reminding your neighbors or the sisters you visit teach that may have seminary aged children about the registration deadline.

Relief Society News

Dear Sisters,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year Holiday.  I wanted to send out a few reminders about some upcoming Ward events:
Saturday, January 5th Stake Conference Adult Session - Granger Stake Building.  The adult session starts at 7pm.
This session will NOT be shown at the Peachwood Building.
Sunday, January 6th Stake Conference - Peachwood Building
Stake Conference starts at 10am
We have been asked to attend at the Peachwood Building.
Thursday, January 10th  Relief Society January Activity 7:00pm in the Relief Society Room
There will be a presentation by Richard Carter on the Courtship of Joseph and Emma Smith.
We will also have a presentation by Marva Mathis on New and Different New Years Resolutions. It will be a great night and hope you all can join us.
If there are any who would like a ride to our activity, please let me know and we will arrange one for you.
Sunday, January 13th   CHURCH STARTS AT 9AM
Our meeting time has changed for 2013 and Sacrament Meeting will now start at 9am. This is great! Now you will be home in time for lunch and naps!

Larae Wixom-Wife of Paul Wixom (Former Ward Member)


LaRae Bowden Herron Wixom loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away surrounded by her family December 8, 2012 after a short illness. LaRae was born to Ray and Beulah Bowden in Garfield. UT on March 24, 1935. She married Owen O Herron Jr. on April 25, 1952. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 49 years and were blessed with 5 children. Together they raised their family in Magna, UT where she lived until her passing. Owen passed away on February 17, 1999. She later married Paul Wixom on January 23, 2003, and they enjoyed almost 10 years together. She cherished her family and loved all her grand children and great grand children very much. Mom was a faithful member of the LDS Church and held many callings, including the South Jordan Temple mission with our dad, and the Saint George mission with Paul. She was proceeding in death by her parents, her son Kelvin, her sister Jeanne Daybell, and brother Michael and grandson Dustin. She is survived by husband Paul and daughters Terrie Lewis (Gary), Lynda Erickson (Lynn), Michell Sylvester (Craig) and her son Scott Herron. LaRae is survived by 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, and was loved by all. LaRae served as an example to all of us and taught us humility, kindness and that family comes first in all our lives.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Saturday December 15, 2012 at the Lake Ridge 3rd Ward, 3151 S 7700 W, Magna. Friends may call 6-8 pm, Friday December 14, 2012 at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 South, Magna and 10–10:45 am prior to services on Saturday at the church. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
