NOVEMBER 9TH-R.S. ACTIVITY NIGHT 6:30 PM !!!!!!

Tuesday, November 9th, at 6:30 PM we will have our last Activity Night for 2010.  So please plan to join with us! We are having a “True” Potluck, so be creative and bring enough for several servings. Besides socializing and eating, we are also going to have some "Make and Take Crafts" available . We will have some quick receipt envelope booklets that you can make at no cost. They can help you organize your holiday and other receipts. Look for samples on Sunday the 7th.

  We also be offering the following vinyl silhouette cut-outs to be placed on glass blocks:

                                         

Plan ahead for the vinyl-on-glass Nativity scenes by purchasing your glass blocks and arranging for the vinyl silhouettes with Sister Lynch.  When you call  Dorene be ready to specify what size: 7 3/4 by 7 3/4 (Large block) or the 5 3/4/ by 5 3/4 (Mini block)

And if you want just the "Manager Scene or the set of Manger,Wisemen, and Shepherds.  Also if you are doing the smaller block, do you want the stable roof that was displayed in Primary and Relief Society?
At this activity, we will also be collecting new books for our holiday donation this year (See Book Club for more information)

BOOK CLUB

Dear Biblios,
  I send greetings from the Land of Oz . . . as surely some tornado touched down and sent me to a faraway place from which I have yet to return to reality. Our pal Glinda, Good Witch of the North, is nowhere to be seen . . . anybody know where she has decided to vacation? I keep waiting for her to work her magic on these blasted ruby slippers, but as yet, have seen no change in getting me back. Of course, the Wicked Witch of the West has to stick her nose in where it doesn't belong and continues to confound my already short-circuited brain. She should know that I am already in competition with the Scarecrow for help and she certainly doesn't add anything positive to the workings of these ruby slippers either. Oh, Auntie Em . . . what is a soul to do????
   I suppose I should put a pause on this spin cycle and catch all of you up on the happenings. . . . I first thank all of you who have stepped in to pick up the slack in my absence or lack of participation.  Had I been keeping up, you would have heard about our August presentation that was masterfully rendered by HeatherMarshall. Thank you for a spell-binding review of The Horse Whisperer. It is a great story.
   We certainly have to send "Well Wishes" to Bill Chesley and his recovery. We still look forward to hearing your presentation on Les Miserables and will hold you to your offer in 2011! September wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the saving grace of my good friend Dorene Lynch who graciously and without hesitation offered to do the presentation for the month. She did an amazing Powerpoint review of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Thank you so much for an awesome job!
  Besides the fact that we are thoroughly hooked on books, we basically love and enjoy getting together to grow our friendships. We have traveled far and wide (certainly more places than these ruby slippers are going), we must have run into Oz, the Wizard, somewhere along our journey, as we have most definitely increased our brain power and heart. I would say we have even learned things that may have given some of us courage as we walk our path.  Books aside . . . we love movies as well! So every once in a while we slip one in. October brought us that opportunity. We often view the movie version of something we have read and October was a "treat" as we watched The Secret Life of Bees, a much-loved book reviewed in our past.

  The year is drawing to a close . . . that means we are usually rewarded with a great kickoff to the holidays at our November Book Club. Thanks to our well-read Biblio, Sue Marshall, 2010 will be no different. She will give us the gift of The Christmas Hope by Donna VanLiere (Name sound familiar? She wrote The Christmas Shoes). It is a wonderful holiday story of love in the face of loss, joy when all seems hopeless, and how light can shine into the darkest places. We meet little five year-old Emily and how her presence in the home of the Addisons will change them . . . how they will learn that there is no sorrow so great that faith cannot help you find your way through. It is an uplifting tale, perfect for the coming season. Sue always does a great job . . . come be among friends and celebrate!
  One more reminder . . . please remember to drop off your books for our Annual Book Donation!  Thanks so much for all your help to keep our gatherings going . . . for your love, support and friendship. In the meantime . . . anyone know how to get the magic of these ruby slippers to kick in??? If you see Glinda out there in limbo, send her my way....
